The program, using curriculum created by Cleveland Bikes, is part of a broader effort to improve safety along school routes.
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) will start including bike safety education in its gym classes in a collaboration with Bike Cleveland, reports Michael Indriolo for Signal Cleveland.
“For Bike Cleveland’s project, the organization will train gym teachers on a bike-focused curriculum. Bike Cleveland made the curriculum to be taught over three or four weeks, with lessons ranging from learning to ride a bike to guidelines for staying safe on the road,” Indriolo adds.
The city is also adding a new separated bike lane to a three-mile segment of East 55th Street with funding from a state Safe Routes to School grant program. Cleveland recently introduced its five-year Cleveland Moves transportation plan, which outlines efforts to upgrade pedestrian infrastructure and build an interconnected bikeway network across the city.
